Eye Of The World Designs

I spotted this cool design duo's new collection inspired & handcrafted from wood and just loved it. As stated by Eye Of The World Designs' Liam Motyer and Hope Von Joel, "we strive to create pieces not only for fashion but also for stand alone craftsmanship" and the current collection for knitwear designer Brooke Roberts includes incredible jigsaw belts & belt buckles and hats, combined perspex pieces.

Absolutely loving the knitwear too.

I spotted this somewhere 10 minutes ago and now for the life of me cannot remember where! Mondays. Ah, here!

Dedicated to domestic manufacturing, sustainable materials and fair labor standards, Capital is committed to having a positive impact on the world." studio floris wubben

Another clever Nederlandse creating aesthetically incredible pieces through experimenting with new material properties. Specifically inspired by nature and traditional natural materials such as wood, Floris Wubben claims that "by using a technique I form this material to new forms and give it a new purpose".

'No.3 Bench'

"This bench is made of polypropylene, wood and lacquered metal. The wavy polypropylene is attached to the wooden branch with metal rods. As a consequence, the shape of the polypropylene is given by the shape of the branch.
The polypropylene forms a fascinating combination along with the natural wood. Although completely different materials, they both need each other to conquer the whole design."

'Waving Furniture'

"This design is based on a new material; sheets of corrugated veneer. Because this "waving" veneer the chair gets new aesthetic qualities and functions. You can make the waves higher and wider, this gives the chair new properties."

'Groove

"This...is a robust table with a massive appearance, inspired on the chopping board from the kitchen. The groove (of one piece over the tabletop and table legs) and the use of massive wood confirms the old-fashioned handwork."

'Ply-felt'

"This "two-person sofa” is a combination of felt with steel pipe. Through the use of this two materials an interesting combined action of contrast and construction arises."

'Vienetta Chair'

"This chair is a combination of white polypropene with steel chromed pipe. Through the use of these two materials an interesting combined action of contrast and construction arises; application of these totally different materials is essential for the functioning of a chair: construction and comfortable seat. The construction of the chair can be taken apart; every part of the chair can be replaced."

'Upside down'

"This chair is made of a (inverted) willow tree. The legs have been obtained by twisting and splinting its branches and letting it dry into the final shape. The seat and back were naturally kept in line with the bole’s silhouette. This project had been put in practice jointly with the artist Bauke Fokkema."

Hepnar ♥ wood

"I was born on the last day of the year during the last century but only my age makes me a pensioner. I was born in Cerveny Kostelec". Antonín Hepnar has an interesting history. Recognised as a Master of Handicraft, you can find his name in the encyclopaedia of Czech and Slovakian artists, you can find a piece of his work in the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and after working in his father's workshop he "took a fancy to rotating shapes...everything in universe rotates". Puppets, jewellery, toys, bowls, candle sticks, anything wooden - Hepnar is a real-life Gepetto.

Antonín Hepnar has collaborated with the creative group Okolo to exhibit "Retrospective of the Light" at Designblok 2010. "Design of lights in all versions – table, floor, wall, and suspension – has always represented the creative mainstay of Antonín Hepnar’s work. This fan of wood and clearly turned shapes has been active in the field of applied arts since the second half of the 1950."

Tomáš Král's & Camille Blin's 'Monster'

The 'Monster Collection' for OKOLO is an incredible collection of pencil cases by Slovakian-born, Swiss-based product designer  Tomáš Král in collaboration with Swiss designer Camille Blin. The set contains a case for four pencils, a wooden block for storing writing utensils & a minimalist leather bag. Okolo has also equipped the first case with four coloured Koh-i-noor pencils. Yum.

"This collection was named Monster after our chance encounter with a vertical shaper in the woodworking shop of Joseph Miele. After many weeks of mutual observation, communication was finally established. Each one of our objects is sculpted by each of its jaws. We have rendered the shape of its teeth to enclose some pencils. We have rendered the strength of its teeth with a black screw to lock in some pencils. We have rendered its skin to make a bag."
